These maps were created in partnership with and with data from the Cultural Vitality Indicators project of The Chicago Community Trust. The data is publicly available and the maps are one of the first public applications of these data. The maps are meant to illustrate city-wide and at the neighborhood level what arts and culture resources "show up" in official data sources. The maps might indicate a density of resources and clusters of activity. The maps also are an analytical tool that can be used to discover the existence of one kind of activity with the presence of another. They are meant to be a jumping-off point for discussion and exploration of the opportunities and needs for Cultural Planning in Chicago.
The data can be found at http://www.cct.org/research/cultural-indicators where people can make their own customized map featuring these data.
